Teeth can become discolored or stained over time due to various factors, including aging, consumption of certain foods and drinks, tobacco use, poor oral hygiene, and certain medications. Here are the key points about teeth whitening:

Types of Teeth Whitening:

  • In-Surgery Whitening: This is performed by a dental professional in the dental chair. It involves applying a strong whitening agent (usually a hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide gel) to the teeth and activating it with a special light. In surgery whitening typically provides and initial boost of colour which is then to be followed up with home whitening.
  • At-Home Whitening: This involves using custom-fitted trays provided by your dentist and a whitening gel which is placed inside the trays. You wear the trays over your teeth for a specified period (usually a few hours a day or overnight) for a certain number of days or weeks until reaching your desired shade.
