Fillings

Dental fillings are a common dental treatment used to repair teeth that have been damaged by decay, fractures, or other types of damage. The procedure involves removing the decayed or damaged portion of the tooth and filling the resulting cavity with a suitable material to restore the tooth's function and appearance. Here are some examples:

Amalgam Fillings:

These are made from a mixture of metals, including mercury, silver, tin, and copper. Amalgam fillings are known for their durability and are often used for molars or teeth that are not easily visible.

Composite Resin Fillings:

These fillings are most commonly used here at Manor Dental. Composite is made from a tooth-coloured mixture of plastic and glass materials. They are aesthetically pleasing and can be matched to the colour of the natural teeth, making them a popular choice for visible areas of the mouth.

The dental filling procedure typically involves the following steps:

  • Numbing the area around the tooth with local anesthesia to ensure a painless procedure.
  • Removing the decayed or damaged part of the tooth using a dental drill
  • Cleaning the cavity to ensure no bacteria or debris remain.
  • Placing the chosen filling material in the cavity and shaping it to match the natural tooth's contours.
  • Curing or hardening the filling material using a special light (for composite resin fillings).
  • Polishing the filling to ensure a smooth and natural appearance.
